Alcoholic hepatitis is an acute and severe liver disease associated with high mortality rate. This study was conducted to develop the instrument of criterion for symptoms improvement after temperance. We made the symptoms improvement questionnaire for alcoholic hepatitis patients through reviewing traditional oriental medical literatures and got advices from the advisor committee with delphi technique. The advisor committee on this study was organized by 10 professors of internal medicine of oriental medical colleges nationwide. The questionnaire was composed of questions about 10 symptoms - fatigue, pain, anorexia, abdominal bloat, heaviness of the body, itch, nausea, sleep, dryness in the mouth and stools. We named it Alcoholic Hepatitis Symptoms Improvement Questionnaire(AHSIQ). We surveyed 65 male alcoholic hepatitis patients and checked liver function profile and AHSIQ before and after temperance four times for six weeks. As a result of factor analysis the scales of AHSIQ had content validity and construct validity. And internal consistency reliability was good(Cronbach\'s alpha=0.768-0.871). The total scale scores were statistically significant in gamma-GTP related validity. We suggest that AHSIQ would be effective for measuring symptoms improvement degree in alcoholic hepatitis patients through further investigations with larger clinical trials.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the anti-inflammatory effects of aqueous extract from Belamcanda chinensis (BC) on the RAW 264.7 cells. To evaluate the anti-inflammatory effects of BC, we examined the cytokine productions including nitric oxide (NO), interleukin (IL)-1b, IL-6 and tumor necrosis factor-a (TNF-a) in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced RAW 264.7 cells and also inhibitory mechanisms such as mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) and nuclear factor kappa B (NF-kB) using Western blot. BC inhibited LPS-induced production of NO, IL-6 and TNF-a but not of IL-1b in RAW 264.7 cells. BC respectively inhibited the activation of MAPKs such as c-Jun NH2-terminal kinase (JNK) and p38 but not of extracelluar signal-regulated kinase (ERK 1/2) and NF-kB in the LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells. Taken together, Our results showed that BC down-regulated LPS-induced NO, IL-6 and TNF-a productions mainly through JNK and p38 MAPK pathway.

| They have brought many inconsistencies by making much of Wang Sukhwa`s six-meridian-transmutation-theory based on Yeollon, Somun in Oriental traditional medicine. On this many medical men such like Hwa Ta have raised objections to that or insisted on its repeal. Wang Geungdang and Yang Soi posed the problem of editing tables of contents, Bang Yujip and Ga Geum etc. gave explanations of fields of six-meridian, Un Cheolcho and Jang Gyeongak etc. presented cause and direction of transmutation. And Gilik Dongdong insisted on its repeal. Sanghannon was the theory that was arranged various experiences of acute epidemic diseases. But they didn`t recognize the differences between analogous epidemic diseases, regarded as the same things in Oriental traditional medicine, and this made many inconsistencies. This is the reason why many medical men raised objections to Wang Sukhwa`s six-meridian-transmutation-theory. |
| The purpose of this study was to review the direction of Korean medicine treatment in hyperlipidemia, focusing on Korean herbal medicine and to suggest sources for drug development in treatment of hyperlipidemia. We searched 115 articles which had been published from 1997 to 2009 in journals in Korean Oriental Medical Society and its sub-societies. Those articles were selected from the search engine of web site of each journal with the key words \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'hyperlipidemia\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'. Excluding 21 articles in no relation to herbs, we finally reviewed 94 articles. There are many studies of \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'hyperlipidemia\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\' in Korean Medicine. Analyzing the articles, we found that the medicinal effects of the herbs used in recent studies and patents coincides with treatment of hyperlipidemia in Korean medicine. Although many herbs in articles is granted patent, it doesn\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t proceeds to develop herbal drug. It requires to study in treatment of hyperlipidemia in Korean medicine and then to develop herbal drug. |
