Therapeutic Research for Intractable Diseases with Herbal Drugs.
4 Recent Research on Traditional Korean Medicine based on Modern Life Science 2006-01-20
Today we will have International Symposium with the topic of Chronic disease and Oriental Medicine . In oriental medicine we put a focus on immune enhancement rather than direct cytotoxicity due to side effects. Especially in case of chronic diseases such as cancer, CVA (Cerebrovascular accident) and arthritis, supplementing Qi is a recommended therapy in oriental medicine based on the pathological theory, \\\"正氣存內 邪不可干\\\" indicating if vital Qi exists in the body, noxious pathogens cant hurt human homeostasis . Thus, there is a research strategy on the development of safe and effective therapeutics from medicinal herbs.
Oriental Pathology Association has a target on elucidating the scientific backup data for the effectivetraditional therapy used for chronic diseases and consolidating the relationship between basic and clinical traditionalmedicines. For this aim, our societies publish J of Oriental Physiology and Pathology bimonthly as one of Journals ranked at Korea Science Foundation and hold international Symposium annually.
Famous scientists from USA, Japan, Taiwan, New Zealand and our country will present their valuable data and discuss intensively together. I expect this meeting will be helpful to the professors, doctors and other members of our society for the advanced research and clinical application.
Lastly, I want to appreciate speakers and our valuable members for attending this symposium and also very thankful to professors and students for organizing this meeting carefully.

2 Oriental Medical Therapeutic Development 2005-08-27
한의학은 전 국민보험이 시행되고 있으며, 전국 11개 한의과대학에서 우수한 한의사를 배출하여 명실 공이 우수한 의학의 한 분야로 인정받고 인류 건강에 기여하고 있습니다. 미국에서도 대체보완의학 (Complementary and Alternative Medicine; CAM)의 범주에 한의학을 포함하여 이들의 과학적 증거를 밝힘으로써 증거에 바탕을 둔 의학(Evidence Based Medicine)을 추구하고 있습니다. 더욱 암, 당뇨병, 중풍, 치매 및 에이즈 등 난치병에도 한방 치료가 수 천년동안 이루어져 왔고, 실제로 유효한 치료결과가 보고되고 있습니다. 이에 \"난치병의 한의학적 치료요법 개발”이라는 주제를 가지고 암 예방의 권위자인 미국의 Lu Junxuan, 치매 치료의 권위자인 구연화 교수님 및 국내의 난치병 치료의 권위자들을 모시고 학술연구의 모임을 마련하였습니다.
