| - Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the domestic research trend about Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) treated with Traditional Korean Medicine (TKM). - Methods: Searches of two major TKM databases were conducted for articles published up to July 2015. Searching keyword was \"Lou Gehrig’s disease\" OR \"amyotrophic lateral sclerosis\". Studies dealt TKM for ALS were included. - Results: 18 studies were met our inclusion criteria (two prospective studies, one retrospective study, one follow-up study, 14 case reports). Complex TKM intervention of herbal medication, acupuncture and pharmacopuncture was the most frequently used treatment. Individually, herbal medication was the most frequent followed by acupuncture. Short-term assessment showed improvement in ALS symptoms but long-term assessment showed progression of disease. Accessory symptoms including depression, anxiety and insomnia were improved in four studies. - Conclusions: For more definite evidence, larger studies with long-term follow-up period are needed. Moreover, benefits that TKM can provide for ALS patients as a part of multi-disciplinary approach should be studied in depth. |

| - Objective : The purpose of this clinical study is to evaluate the effect of Traditional Korean Medicine(KM) on a patient with Tolosa-Hunt syndrome. - Methods : We treated a 58 years old male patient with Tolosa-Hunt syndrome who had several clinical symptoms such as ocular pain, limitaion of ocular movement and unilateral ptosis. We used herbal medication, acupuncture, electro-acupuncture(EA), cupping, moxibustion, bee-venom injection. Then we evaluated the improvement by Numerical Rating scale(NRS), Distance of eye opening and ratio of pupil movement. - Results : We demonstrated the decrease of pain score and improvement of equal ocular movement(EOM) and ptosis after the KM treatment. - Conclusions : This study proved the effect of KM treatment on Tolosa-Hunt syndrome. It could cooperative treatment would be more effective than mono treatment of western medicine. |

| - Objectives : This clinical study is to report the effect of Korean medicine on patient with central post-stroke pain. - Method : A patient who was treated with herbal medicine Sokyungwhalhyul-tang(SKWHT), acupuncture and moxibution. Degree of treatment was measured by Numbering Rating Scale and quality of sleep. - Results : After taking herb medicine, acupuncture and moxibution, the patient’s pain was relieved and quality of sleep was improved before treatment. - Conclusion : This clinical case study showed the effect of Korean medicine on symptom of pain. |

| This report is about a case of monocular partial oculomotor nerve palsy in a patient with midbrain hemorrhage. The patient developed diplopia while driving. The Brain MRI film demonstrated a hemorrhage in the right midbrain and left corona radiata and microbleedings in both cerebral and cerebellar hemispheres, basal ganglia, midbrain, pons. We used Korean medicine treatment modalities including acupuncture, electroacupuncture, pharmacoacupuncture and herb medicines. As a result, limitation of upward gaze was recovered to about 90% of normal range. |
