Objectives: To report the reduction of adverse effects of chemotherapy and improvement in the
quality of life in recurrent liver metastasis by Korean medicine treatments.
Methods: In 2018, a 75-year-old male patient underwent surgery for primary cancer in the ampulla
of Vater. In 2021, he was diagnosed with recurrent liver metastasis. Following the failure of
tumor treatment with gemcitabine/cisplatin and the development of severe side effects, he
decided to discontinue chemotherapy. Subsequently, with a significantly enlarged liver tumor, he
resumed capecitabine/oxaliplatin treatment, alongside moxibustion, acupuncture, and herbal
prescriptions from August 2021 to August 2023. The changes of chief complaints, abdominal
CT, and laboratory findings were investigated.
Results: After combined treatment of Korean traditional medicine and chemotherapy, the mass was decreased. Laboratory findings, and chief complaints of hand-foot syndrome, fatigue, abdominal
distension, nausea and anorexia were improved.
Conclustions: This case study suggests that Korean traditional medicine is effective in enhancing
anticancer effects, suppressing the side effects of chemotherapy, and improving general
conditions.

Objectives: To report recurrent pancreatic cancer treated by Korean medicine based-integrated oncology treatment, who is improved quality of life without progression of cancer
Method: A 63-year-old female patient diagnosed with recurrent pancreatic cancer in April, 2022 received Chemotherapy with Korean medicine based integrative oncology treatment. Radiologic outcome was assessed by Abdomen Computed Tomography (CT) based on Response Evaluation Criteria In Solid Tumors (RECIST). Clinical outcomes were assessed by National Cancer Institute Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Event (NCI-CTCAE), Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG), Numeric Rating Scale (NRS)
Result: During 2months of treatment, Cancer size was stable in Abdominal CT. Chief complaints, Abdominal pain and dyspepsia, were improved and ECOG score was improved from grade 2 to 1. There were no toxicity on laboratory test and no side effects of grade 3 or higher on NCI-CTCAE.
Conclusion: This report shows that Korean medicine based integrative oncology treatment might contribute to synergetic effect to Chemotherapy and improvement of quality of life

Objective:The purpose of this review is to analyze the clinical studies on tongue diagnosis in cancer patients.
Methods: Domestic and foreign databases were used, such as Pubmed, google scholar, Wanfang med online, Scopus, and OASIS. Searching keywords were tongue diagnosis, tongue color, tongue fur, tongue inspection, cancer, tumor, neoplasm, carcinoma, etc. Studies on tongue diagnosis in cancer patients were included. The published year was limited from 2000 to June 2022.
Results:Thirteen studies were enrolled. All selected studies were cross-sectional studies. Cancer patients tend to have a dark and blue-purple tongue, thick fur, yellow fur, fissure tongue, and red dots on the tongue compared with non-cancer patients. With the aggravation of cancer, the rate of patients having dark or blue, or purple tongues increased, and the patients' sublingual veins became wide and tortuous.
Conclusion:This study suggests that cancer patients tend to have distinct features of tongue diagnosis. Further researches are warranted.

21 한의 종양학 연구 분야에서의 Propensity Score Matching Method 적용에 대한 문헌 고찰 김동현, 김종희, 유화승, 박소정 2022-01 ~ 학회지
The Randomized Control Trial (RCT) is the most well-established and widely used statistical methodology in clinical research; however, applying thorough RCT to cancer patients presents challenges such as ethical concerns, high costs, short clinical periods, and limitations in collecting various side effects. To address this issue, the propensity score matching method, which takes advantage of the benefits of observational research while compensating for the drawbacks of
randomized control trials, is used in a variety of fields. In recent years, 28 studies on the effectiveness of Korean medicine on tumors have been conducted abroad using the Propensity Score Matching Method, but none have been conducted in Korea. The majority of studies have focused on liver cancer, colon cancer, lung cancer, and stomach cancer, with endpoints such as survival time, incidence rate, quality of life, and treatment outcomes revealing statistical differences in how Korean medicine intervention affects treatment outcomes. As a result, well-established studies using the propensity matching score methodology should be useful in evaluating the impact of Korean medicine in oncology treatments.
