The Theoretical Considerations for the Usage of Majinshui to Treat the Lower Back Pain Caused by the Temporo-madibular Disorder
Jo Young-uk, Kim Kap-sung
Department of Acupuncture & Moxibustion, College of Oriental Medicine, Dongguk University

The temporo-mandibular disorder cause facial and temporo-mandibular joint pain, disorders and disharmony of the lower jaw, and noises in the temporo-mandibular joints. The temporo-mandibular disorder are caused by the disorders of occlusal articulation, emotional stress, and traumatic injuries. The most of these disorders are occurred by the retropulsion of the temporo-mandibular joint of one side, and are related with the tension of the masticatory muscles. These temporo-mandibular disorders can accompany the systemic symptoms, especially the dysfunctions of the spines. As the cranium and the sacrum are connected to the spines, the imbalance of the temporo-mandibular joints changes the positions of the Atlas and the Axis to the abnormal positions, and also changes the positions of the spines and the pelvis. The sprain of the lower back is the backache occurred by the flexion or laboring or lifting at the abnormal positions. majinshui of the facial region in Dong-Si Acupuncture is used for the lower back pain. majinshui is the same acupoint as the point of Kwallyo(SI18), and is used for the symptoms of facial palsy, firmly closed jaws, trigeminal neuralgia, and pain of temporo-mandibular joints. It also affects the masticatory muscles as it is located at the trigger point of masseter muscle. Therefore, the acupoint of majinshui can eliminate the imbalance of the lower back muscles that are related with temporo-mandibular joints as it regulates the tensions of the masticatory muscles which influence temporo-mandibular joints.

Objective : The purpose of this study is to research the significance of Ji-Jang-Su(Water abstracted from yellow soil) , as a solution to intoxication produced by artificial synthetic chemicals just like Endocrine disrupter, through the analysis of yellow soil as materials of Ji-Jang-Su(Water abstracted from yellow soil) and the researches on manufacturing processes and efficacies of Ji-Jang-Su(Water abstracted from yellow soil).
Methods : In my discretion, to study Ji-Jang-Su(Water abstracted from yellow soil), soil science and yellow soil are essential. And I investigated oriental medical literatures in the Kyung-Hee University Oriental Library and the National Assembly Library for 6 months. I also studied Black Hall.
Result and Conclusion : 1. Yellow soil that is materials of Ji-Jang-Su(Water abstracted from yellow soil) must be collected from the lowest layer of soil scientific B horizon.
2. Manufacturing process of Ji-Jang-Su(Water abstracted from yellow soil) is that after digging the yellow soil until 90cm deep, pour pure water into the hole and blend them toward muddy water, then remove floating matters and the muddy water will be reclean after a good while, use the reclean water.
3. Ji-Jang-Su(Water abstracted from yellow soil) have high usefulness to detoxicate food poisoning, mushroom poison and drug intoxication.

Clinical Study of Moxa-pellet Treatment for the Chronic Low Back Pain Patients
(By Analyzing DITI-Digital Infrared Thermographic Imaging and Subjective Index)
Lee Ro-min, Kim Yong-suk, Kim Chang-hwan
Department of Acupuncture & Moxibustion, College of Oriental Medicine, Kyung-hee University

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to evaluate clinical effect of moxa- pellet treatment for chronic low back pain by comparing the improvement of VAS(Visual Analogue Scale), PPI(Present Pain Index) and DITI(Digital Infrared Thermographic Imaging) of treatment group with those of control group.
Methods : Among the 20-65 years old low back pain patients who suffered more than 3 months and voluntarily visited Kyung-hee oriental medical hospital in July 2006, 23 cases(treatment group 14, control group 9) were selected. The treatment with moxa-pellets was performed for 4 weeks by randomized controlled single blind study. The assessment measurements consisted of VAS(Visual Analogue Scale), PPI(Present Pain Index), DITI(Digital Thermographic Imaging). Statistical correlations among assessment measurements were evaluated.
Results : 1. The sexual ratio in this study was 1:2.83 (male:female=6:17). The average age of all patients was 48.7 (highest:63, lowest:27).
2. After treatment, VAS decreased in both groups and the significance was verified in both groups(P-value<0.05). And the significance was verified in treatment group(P-value<0.01), but it was not verified in control group(P-value<0.01).
