The purpose of this study is to report a case of a patient with pattern identification of liver fire flaming
upward and metabolic syndrome improved by Korean medicine. The patient felt completely lost. She
was treated for headache, insomnia, and metabolic syndrome with Korean medicine and psychotherapy. Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), Pattern Identification Tool
for Insomnia (PIT-Insomnia), Minnesota multiphasic personality inventory-2 (MMPI-2), and bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) were used for assessment. During treatment for six months, the patient stopped taking headache pills. Her blood pressure was stabilized. Her body weight, body fat, body
mass index (BMI), and visceral fat decreased significantly. The sum of ISI, PSQI, PIT-insomnia also decreased significantly. Her Ego strength increased in the MMPI-2 supplementary scale. We assume that
Korean medicine treatment through acupuncture, herbal medicine, and psychotherapy is effective in
treating pattern identification of liver fire flaming upward and metabolic syndrome.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to develop a standardization manual for Emotion To Emotion
therapy. In this study, the processes and categories derived through literature search related to the
Emotion To Emotion treatments, were revised and supplemented by the expert FGI (Focus Group
Interview). Afterwards, the expert Delphi was conducted, to develop a standard manual for the disease
types, purpose, and method of Emotion To Emotion therapy.
Methods: In this study, literature analysis and expert Delphi, as a quantitative research method, were
conducted, and the expert Focus Group Interview (FGI) was conducted as a qualitative study. The manual was completed by leading the consensus, on the standardization manual for Emotion To Emotion
therapy. After that, a clinical expert Delphi was conducted to test the reliability as well as validity of
the manual, through quantitative consensus on the manual of the Emotion To Emotion therapy.
Results: First, as a result of literature studies, to date, studies related to Emotion To Emotion therapy
have been qualitatively and quantitatively limited, as comparative literature related to clinical cases.
Second, through expert FGI, the manual was structured with eight sub-factors for the indication diagnosis, six sub-factors for the implementation method, and 13 detailed factors. Third, through an expert
Delphi, the consensus did the factor of indication, implementation methods, and implementation
process, and developed a standardization manual for Emotion To Emotion therapy ver 1.0.
Conclusions: Through literature analysis, expert FGI, and expert Delphi, the Emotion To Emotion therapy standardization manual ver 1.0 was completed, and will proceed with the revision and improvement report.

Objectives: To investigate emotional characteristics of healthy adults using the Core Seven Emotions
Inventory-Short Form (CSEI-s) and to investigate the correlation between the CSEI-s and Korean version of the Perceived Stress Scale (K-PSS).
Methods: Overall, 2,178 healthy adults aged ≥19 years who completed the CSEI-s and K-PSS in a nationwide multicenter study were included in this study. One-way analysis of variance was performed
to identify associations of seven emotions with sociodemographic characteristics. Bonferroni corrected post-hoc tests were performed for multiple comparisons. Pearson’s correlation analyses were
conducted to examine the correlation between each emotion and stress.
Results: Scores of all emotions except for joy (喜) and stress were significantly greater in women than
in men. However, the score of joy (喜) in women was significantly less than that in men. There were
significant differences in joy (喜), thought (思), depression (憂), fear (恐), and fright (驚) according to
age groups in both men and women. The score of depression (憂) was significantly lower in women
attending or graduating from graduate school than in those attending or graduating from undergraduate school. Significantly lower scores in joy (喜), thought (思), depression (憂), sorrow (悲), fear
(恐), and fright (驚) were observed in married men than in single men. There were significant positive
correlations between depression (憂) and stress and between sorrow (悲) and stress in both men and
women.
Conclusions: There were significant associations of seven emotions with sociodemographic characteristics in healthy adults.

Objectives: The combination of Harm-Avoidance (HA) and Self-Directedness (SD) of Temperament and
Character Inventory (TCI) has been reported pivotal for mental health; however its clinical usefulness
in integrative medicine has not sufficiently reported. The purpose of this study was to illustrate multi-phasic mental health of subjective satisfaction with life, emotional well-being, and psychopathology, following the HA-SD profile groups.
Methods: A total of 527 Korean university students reported HA and SD scores as to render their HA-SD
profile, and multi-phasic mental health characteristics using Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS),
Positive Affect and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS), and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) with composite well-being scales of SC (Sum of Self-Directedness and Cooperativeness score) and HI (Happiness
Index, subtraction of Negative Affect (NA) score from Positive Affect (PA) score) as standardized.
Pearson’s correlation was used to report correlation coefficient, and the ANCOVA with age and sex as
covariates, to show significant differences in mental health and well-being between the HA-SD profile
groups.
Results: The HA-SD profile groups showed distinctive multi-phasic mental health characteristics;
health related scores of SWLS, PA, SC and HI decreased following the order of hS (low HA and high SD),
HS (high HA and high SD), hs (low HA and low SD) and Hs (high HA and low SD) profile groups; however
the non-health related scores of NA and BDI showed contrasting order.
Conclusions: The HA-SD profile was found to be clinically useful for examining multi-phasic mental
health and well-being status, and the TCI may be an imperative personality inventory for integrative
medicine.
