International Member

Definition and Eligibility

According to Article 3, Clause ④ of the “Regulations for the Management of Individual Members,”
a Special Member (International Member) refers to:

A person who does not hold a Korean traditional medical license but is a researcher in Korean medicine or related fields living abroad, and who supports the purpose of SKOM and wishes to contribute to the development of Korean medicine.

Eligible applicants include:

Holders of foreign certificates or licenses issued by official national health authorities

Members of overseas academic societies in collaborative relationships with SKOM

Example: Licensed medical practitioners who are members of international acupuncture societies such as ICMART. Researchers with academic background and experience in Korean medicine or related fields. Graduates of institutions like Beijing University of Chinese Medicine actively involved in research.

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit the following documents:
  1. Application Form
  2. Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  3. Copy of relevant certificates or licenses
  4. Recommendation Letter

    Must be written by either:

    • At least two (2) directors of SKOM
    • Or the president of a SKOM member society
    • (In most cases, the recommendation letter will be prepared by members of the SKOM International Exchange Commission.)
  5. Proof of Payment
    • Admission Fee: KRW 500,000
    • Annual Membership Fee: KRW 150,000
    • Total Payment: KRW 650,000

Application and Approval Process

1) Document Submission

Submit all required documents and proof of payment to the SKOM International Exchange Commission.

2) Qualification Review

The International Exchange Commission will conduct an initial review of eligibility and qualifications.

3) Deliberation and Approval

Final approval will be made by the SKOM Board of Directors based on the submitted documents and recommendations.

4) Notification of Results

Upon approval, the applicant will be granted Special Member (International Member) status and notified accordingly.

Membership Rights and Responsibilities

Special Members (International Members) are entitled to:

Participate in SKOM's academic activities, including conferences, research forums, and exchanges.
However, Special Members (International Members) may not participate in decision-making or operational activities of SKOM or its member societies.

Additional Notes

Once granted membership, the title should be stated as:

"Special Member (International Member) of the Society of Korean Medicine (SKOM)"
in official documents such as CVs or conference presentations.
